SSRS - Sparklines

SSRS has number of new graphics that are exciting to hear especially for those who are trying to build BI solutions.

Sparklines, those small cute graphics that appears in each line of matrix catches the eyes of BI customers. So its one of the most have graphics. Microsoft excel 2010 also has this trendy graphic to show data information, but whats really exciting to hear is, SSRS 2008 R2 also has this feature.

I have constructed these graphics using visual studio 2008, and the the construction of these graphics is really straightforward. After creating data set, adding a matrix to the report just drag and drop the sparklines from the toolbar to the matrix column. Set the value it should represent, then select the category groups from the data set. Bang !! You have sparkline in your report. Yeah, its that simple. :)

While showing reports using report viewer web parts in sharepoint page, the cells containing sparklines want to have greater height than they were originally allocated. I haven´t figured out why this happens, but i find that it happens not only with sparklines, but also with Indicatores and Data Bar. One solution for this problem though is to create a performance point report using performance point dashboard designer and deploy that to the sharepoint.
